am i burnt?

WARNING
never • ever • go out during a heat wave. it sucks!

the current temperature now is 46ºc. Double the heat of malaysia. Penang temperature is currently 26ºc. So imagine the heat !!!

i just went out with my group of friends, and .. i didn't liked the heat wave at all.. hahaha. the wind was blowing strong, but heat of the wind is the culprit to all this! it was burning hot seriously i tell you. i wanna write this down because probably no malaysians would ever face this again in their life. i was there to witness it! i was there to feel it !

seriously folks, avoid the heat wave. stay home please..

PS: i was carrying my sling bag with a huge bottle of water in it. the metal on my sling bag burnt my hand, causing a small scar. it was that hot... no joke.

burning hot..

another heat wave is hitting Australia today, 3 states which will face this phenomena is Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. Temperatures will rise up to 46ºc today.

the time i'm writing this post now is 11.01 am and its already 38ºc. what will we see when it hits the afternoon sun?? i wouldn't wanna know...

good luck aussie folks.

just for some fun

my no.1 ^_^

we never talk right, we always fight, we always argue .. but MUM, you're always my
no.1 ok !!
this lady holding the super cute puppy dog is my mum. her love for dogs is beyond imagination and the effort she took to take care of my dog (casper - not in this picture) was "super". i have my full respects for her.  Mum used to hate dogs, scared of dogs, would run away if a dog gets near her . But now? casper n jingles seemed to like her more than me. sad right? for me.. ahhaa. probably in my house, "dogs are men's best friends" do not exists or maybe should be changed to "dogs are women's best friends".

mum is a very independent and successful women, being able to take care of the whole family and giving us a comfortable life. mum worked so hard for the past 20 years so that she would make sure that me and grandma is safe and well fed. she did a great job on that. and mum, we are all thankful ok!

really not much to write about mum, cause i know she wont let me .. low profile right? hehez anyways. i wanna use this opportunity to say thank you mum for all your effort in raising me up to be what i am today. I will not disappoint you and i promise that i will do good in my exams!

i love you mum! stay pretty always ok! muaxxx

50th Post

This is the 50th post in my blog and is a tribute to my beloved grandma.
 Liew Seng Thye.
my grandma is a wonderful lady. since she was young, she did not had a very good life. she had to suffer through world war 2 at the age of 11. being up in the hills of pantai acheh together with all her brother n sisters through the war, it wasn't easy for a 11 year old kid. but she grew up to be a great mum, great person.

she then got married to my grandfather and had four beautiful kids. my mum was the youngest one. prettiest one of course.. ahaha (thank you mum). and her life goes on, suffering from poorness, raising up four kids and all sorts of bad things you could ever imagine. probably that's where her bad temper came from. because all she ever knew to protect her kids was to be fierce. that's kinda like an old timers thinking and we cannot blame her for it. probably that's in her genes too.. haha. but she's a nice person.

few years back, my grandma was happily living with me and mum in our little home downtown. i was still schooling back then and she would cook for me everyday. her vegetarian dishes was ok. but still, home cooked meals are the best right? and i heard mum telling me, that my grandma would carry home cooked meals to me in school all the way from P-ramlee flats to Batu Lanchang primary school. That's super amazing for an old lady to walk that far everyday..  crazy right..

so, after years pass by .. her health has gone down hill, as you can see the difference in her movements and speech. this is very common for old people to have all these .. i would hav them too right when i'm old? but grandma was different .. although she likes to brag a little when she hav pains all over her body , but i know she's a tough person. very tough. young people like me should take her as example.

but, things weren't pretty right for my family. basically all my cousins are now in singapore working, fighting for their careers. leaving my grandma behind alone in the big house. the tale goes like this. one moment, all your grandchildrens and kids are around you running around.. another minute, they are all gone. leaving you behind all by yourself. that is very sad right? my grandma is old enough and i don't think she should be facing all these depressions right now.

just for example during chinese new year. i still recall those days when i was a kid, and chinese new year was so fun. all my cousins would gather back in the house, running around playing. and when it comes to 12am, grandma would sit down and start giving out red packets. you would always see her smile in her face. where were those days? this year, she looked so bored and sad. i asked her, "nai-nai, are you ok?" and the only thing she replied me is, "i'm ok. why ask?" but i know inside me .. that she is depressed .. new year hasn't been the same anymore. where are all the laughters? where are all the noises? where are all the festivities? they are all gone..

grandma is such a wonderful person and i don't think its fair for her to face such things at her age now. she should be surrounded by her grandchildrens, kids and finishing her remaining years with smiles n laughters. isn't that what everyone wants when they get old?

so, everyday i pray really hard so that grandma would stay healthy and strong to see me graduate and go home with pride. i always tell God, that if grandma would live as long to see me grow up and be successful in my career, please let me have the chance to repay all her hard work in raising me up. let me be by her side for her remaining years..

grandma, i love you. i hope you know it ok.

lawn bowl

Today i went for a lawn bowl game with the whole group of degree students. It was about 30minutes tram ride from the college. Didn't catch the name of the place. Overall, it was fun.

It was like, bowling on the grass. Trying to get to the target (a little white ball) by rolling a heavy ball . The person who rolls the ball and gets nearest to the target earns a point. It was not a very tiring game, in fact a perfect game for older people as leisure.

Weather today was beautiful. Bright sunshine with cold breeze winds. Thank god i was smart enough to wear shorts today . Hahaha.

So i met a few new friends from the course. Mrs.Japan, (couldn't spell her name), Ivan from malaysia, Ricardo from Brazil, Benson from malaysia too, Rob from Sydney, and a few more which i couldn't remember their names from all around the world.

Well, i had fun. Hahaha.

liver cancer

Health Tip : Liver Cancer

The liver is one of the major organs in your body responsible for removing toxins from the human body. It breaks down these toxins into pigmented substances and excretes these substances into our intestines. Liver cancer is very common in Asian countries such as Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The liver serves as the body's factory, manufacturing proteins that allow our blood to clot normally and proteins that make up our muscles. Sugars and starches that the body requires to sustain life are made and stored by the liver. Excessive alcohol consumption, the Hepatitis B and C viruses and smoking are some of the factors that increase your risk of getting Live Cancer.

Learn what are the symptoms of Liver Cancer in this week's Health Tip. Please read the attached file for more information on the complications caused by Liver Cancer.

heat gone...

YES !!!! i finally managed to buy myself a cheap stand fan ($16.90) to ease the "pain" of my room for being super hot even there's air conditioning going on. I couldn't see why the room is so hot even the weather outside aint. stupid..

today is yet another boring day.. but i knew i shouldn't waste any time here .. so i managed to move around the city .. "again" by myself. I woke up around 11am and made myself breakfast. Its some instant fried rice in a packet that i only need to heat it up in the microwave . And there goes my brunch. cheap & good. I took my shower and headed downtown.

i walked around with the map, checking out new places that i haven't seen before. I saw "free city round tram" . wow! free ride on the tram to go round the city. I quickly hop on and the tram took me to a few places that were too far for me to walk to. Though the tram i was on didn't go to the famous Docklands .. but it was worth the ride. Melbourne CBD aint that small afterall.. hahaha.

after the ride i went back to BigW to look for the fan. But i was stupid enough to walk up to Harvey Norman first. Looked around for quite some time.. till i asked this girl. "you guys sell those portable fans?" she said "sold out . sorry. you can try BigW downstairs. i heard they got new stock coming in this morning. " i quickly rush downstairs hoping to grab one before its sold out again. while i was rushing thru the counters, i saw one guy holding it. OMG!! no more fan for me this time again.....

i rushed all the way to the electronics department and woolala!! there's 2 more unit on the shelves. And this time its cheaper than those previous one which are sold out. Those were $29. This one was only $16. Thank god. I knew the new year aint gonna be bad for me. Hahaha. What a great way to start a new year. Having at least some breeze in my room .. finally i get to sleep without sweating thru the night.

so this is my dinner. Straight from the can. Instant fried rice and canned curry beef with vegetables. Both adding up to be around $4. Cheap right !! better than eating out which will cost you around $10 per meal.

family..

I MISS U GUYS SO MUCH !!!!

i really can't wait till i see you all again..

please be strong & wait for my return

my tiny hut..

well folks this is my room. a front view and a top view. my single bed is on top of my study table, behind my study table is a closet to hang my clothes. Beside it is a small closet with 2 racks in it. Beside my room door is a cupboard with a closed closet on the bottom and 2 open shelves. A heater on the side, and a clothes hanger. Plus a study table.

Not bad to say actually .. just a little too big for a single person. Feel really quiet n lonely especially at night.. miss my bed.

So today i went for the orientation. Wow almost 90% international students are asians ! When i walked into the hall there was like almost 300people. Mostly asians. Surprisingly William Angliss is so well known overseas too. By the way, the sad thing about it is .. there's only 4 person in my course. Of course i combine most of the class with other Bachelor Degree students, such as B'Degree in Hospitality Management and B'Degree in Even Management. A lot of our subjects are similar. So we will usually be sharing classes. But i hope i don't have to go to any class that only consists 4 of us. Which is all 4 from Malaysia ! 1 chinese guy, 1 chinese girl and 1 indian. 3 of them are friends. I will get to know them more soon. Hope to be friends.

So after orientation,  i got my student ID card, a diary from William Angliss and some Melbourne goodies. Listening to the director talking about how the classes will be conducted, how the examinations will be held and a few more things concerning the degree program .. this is no joke at all. Presentation in front of the class !!!! Oh gosh .. wonder if i am ready for that.

So went to the degree class for a talk, and saw a lot of local aussies too. Plus some of our asians, so adding up to about 50 people taking up degrees. Its a bit tense in the lecture hall, is a bit dark and gloomy .. some of the students were paying full attention, while others sms'ing in the hall. One of them even fell asleep.. wierd huh. Hahaha.

After the whole orientation ended, i walked up to BigW to get my blanket. It was kinda cold last night and pity me, i was sleeping cuddling up like a ball. Just had my jacket out to cover my hands. Wonder why suddenly the weather change. Stupid melbourne. Anyway, on my way back i drop by Safeway to get some groceries. Got myself a bunch of maggie mee, a small packet of rice and a few microwave meals. Total of $19 that i think can last me for almost a week. Must save money oh !!

Well, finally got home after walking for almost an hour carrying those heavy groceries and blanket. Took my shower and here i am.. blogging. What else better to do . Shouldn't take a nap, if not i wont be able to sleep tonight. Well, i got no class tmr. Can wake up later. Since i got maggie mee, can save money on eating out. So probably i wont be heading out tmr, gonna stay back in my room doing some research on the course.

Oh ya! Did i mention, my class is only on Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs? And the latest class goes till 1.30pm only on Wednesday, which is wine class. So i will probably start to look for a part time job. Saw a sign on Swanson's St, a small sushi shop looking for part timers. Will probably drop by to check it out next week.

Aight mates. Will update soon.
Bye'yal.

PS: Still miss home a lot .......

here i am..

it has been 2 days since i arrived at Melbourne. The weather is so hot, worst than malaysia. But at least it cooled down a little today with some rain in the morning. So yesterday was a pretty emotional day as i had to part with my mum n grandma at the airport. Looking at them from far makes me think that .." am i making the right choice to leave them at this age? " I really do miss them so much.. and even cried myself to sleep so many times last night. I couldn't stop thinking how lonely they will be without me running around them especially mum. She's all by herself .. no one to talk to. no one to help her out. no one to make her smile.. i am very sad..

so today was a little better.. i woke up early in the morning and heard rain pouring outside. so i drop back to sleep for another 2 hours n woke up around 11am. Took a shower n went outside walking.. Melbourne city is a little bit similar to New York city .. just less traffic n people. And there are tons of asians n indians walking on the streets .. mostly students i guess. So i went to AusEd office today to pay my room Bond. It was a long walk .. but it was fun. I might enjoy walking more soon... who knows. hahaa.

not much to talk about yet .. haven't did my full exploration on the city . And didn't reli hav time to snap some pictures .. because i was so busy looking for purchase of internet connection. Well finally came to a small chinese minimart and seeked the chinese guy inside for help on prepaid phone line and prepaid internet line. Got myself a USB modem for ($199plus a 2GB card ( FYI, Melbourne prepaid internet goes by the amount of space u're buying to surf the net. and the stupid modem is really expensive. Hoping to sell it of next time before i leave for home)

i guess thats all for now. more will be posted tmr after the orientation.

cheers
